When I started writing in October 2022, I wrote only in long forms. I did not know about short-form.
Eventually, I came to know about this format and it has worked wonders for me.
In case you are wondering what should be the ideal writing format, here is a brief breakdown of the benefits of both longform and shortform.

1. In-depth explanation
When you write on a topic with an in-depth explanation, it has better SEO to reach the readers.
Wondering what is SEO? Don’t worry I will cover it some other day. But here is a 5-minute crash course, if you are really curious about it.
Consider this. Your friend has asked for your suggestion about overcoming sleeplessness. She came to you because you had spoken about it sometime back.
There are two ways you can respond.
#1. Keep it short — maybe your friend does not have time for a long discussion. So you can discuss it in brief and wind it up in less than 5 minutes.
You touch upon the main points like
What causes sleeplessness
What lifestyle to adopt to avoid it
When should you go to bed?
#2. Make it a detailed conversation — You tell your friend to have a detailed discussion about it on the weekend.
There you don’t just touch upon the topics but you explain it in detail.
When you discuss this, here are a few things to keep in mind.
The discussion should answer all the questions of your friend.
It should be done in a natural tone with simple language to make him understand easily.
The solutions that you provide should be easy for him to implement
In case he wants more resources (like books, podcasts, and research papers) you can guide him
This is the concept of long-form and short-form.
#2. Time constraint
If you have a hectic day writing long-form content, shortform content is your fun alternative.
It takes me roughly 15 minutes to write 150 words of content.
It is quick to write
There is motivation to complete content fast
It inspires me to write more
You can repurpose short-form content in social media posts as listicles.
#3. Magic of repurposing
I follow this strategy to write both long-form and short-form content.
It has worked wonders to write in my hectic days.
Here it goes.
Step 1:
Write a 700–1000 words long-form content
Step 2:
Create 2–4 shortform content (less than 300 words each) from this piece.
Step 3:
Draft social media posts from these short-form contents
Benefits: You don’t have to think of 10 ways to create these contents in different formats. You just think once and then reformat it in different ways.
Simple. Isn’t it?
That’s it.
